Northern Territory Division

Towards 2009

The NT division has been working hard all year preparing for the 2009 conference in Darwin. We are very excited about the plans we have been making and are looking forward to welcoming our interstate and international colleagues to join us in our beautiful tropical city for a conference with a difference.

Our proposed venue has delegates in a lush, tropical, clifftop setting overlooking the sparkling, pristine Arafura Sea. Only a short walk to the Mindil Beach markets allows delegates to be tantalised by aromas wafting from the vast array of cuisines. The famous Mindil Beach sunset attracts visitors from across the globe, and it is not uncommon to hear a round of applause from the festive crowd, gathered around the beach to picnic and witness the spectacle. Rest assured, an evening at Mindil Markets is already a fixture on our exciting and diverse program.

Come for a walk around the grounds for a glimpse of the venue

A short walk in the other direction leads to the Museum and Art Gallery and the NT Craft Council. Here delegates can  immerse themselves in the rich history and culture of the Northern Territory and experience quality arts and crafts from a number of gifted artists.  Darwin has so much to offer, especially during the dry season. The weather is perfect - blue skies, warm days, cooler nights - a welcome respite from the middle of winter in more southern parts. Darwin is a beautiful city to visit for a relaxing break, with a lush tropical feel, life is lived outdoors at this time of year. The Botanic Garden links our venue with the city and provides the opportunity for a delightful walk home at the end of the day if you choose.  One of the many picturesque outdoor locations will play host to our Dinner Under the Stars which promises to be a most memorable conference dinner.

So once again, pencil in the dates - July 8,9,10,11 2009. You might like to make time for a pre or post conference tour to one of the many tourist attractions within a couple of hours of Darwin. It promises to be a conference which will enthuse and invigorate you in a setting you will never forget. Do come.

Cheers from the NT Division.
